About

Jordan Gower is a South Australian ceramic artist and current Head of Ceramics at JamFactory, Tarntanya/Adelaide.

Drawing on the longstanding history of ceramic craft and studio pottery traditions, Gower’s work looks at the perception of objects and how thresholds and transitional states can be explored through the interplay of surface and line.

Gower’s interest in (object) ontology and perception is a constant driver in his practice, which has led him to explore the connective and temporal aspects of wheel thrown objects. By utilising composition as a tool to isolate, reframe, combine and imply, Gower’s works reflect the world in actuality as clay objects and as metaphor through process.

Prior to training as a JamFactory Ceramics Associate in 2016/17, Gower studied printmaking at Adelaide College of the Arts (TAFESA) and completed an Honours degree at the University of South Australia (School of Art, Architecture and Design). Following this Gower established the production brand Aburi - an homage to the food, process and ceramic cultural traditions that inspired him - where he produced bespoke tableware for award winning restaurants and wineries across South Australia.
